Brought with the rain and river flood,
Where the bridge once stood & once ran with blood,
There came a man whose name was Life,
And he took the Earth to be his wife.

He cried for a son of high degree.
He searched the heavens; he searched the sea,
Till his son was born whose name was Death,
And he charmed the sun which brought him love*.

Now the sun & moon soon grew quite pale.
The wind could not blow the ship nor sail,
And when he grew tired of waiting long,
He hummed a tune & a mournful song.

And Death he loved the glass & steel.
He loved the sure things that he could feel.
He loved the bright shine of beaten gold.
But the breath of life he couldn't hold.
