Don't Fuss nor Fight" "you know we are Israelites" is
virtually the extent of the lyrics to this song, but Barrington
Levy can take a simple sentiment and give it such emotional
depth, that with each repetition the words resonate ever
stronger.
Of course it helps that behind him the Roots Radics are
laying down the richest of backings, transforming a sweet
rocksteady rhythm into a steamy, mellifluous arrangement.
Carlton "Santa" Davis's sharp beats, Errol "Flabba" Holt's
throbbing bass, and Gladstone "Gladdy" Anderson's pretty
keyboard riffs combine with Felix "Deadly Headly" Bennett,
Val Bennett, and Bobby Ellis's sparkling brass to create a
sumptuous accompaniment to Levy's own sweet, warm tones.
This gorgeous number was a mesmerizing call for peace, and a
huge hit both in Jamaica, where it appeared under the title
"Reggae Music", and in the British reggae scene were it was
released as "Don't Fuss.
