The house gothic, quiet and unlived-in
Frail old lady pleasant and caring
His room barely furnished stale odours
No evidence of who lived here before

Night time, his body is resting
Peaceful slumber disturbed
Slurred groaning whining omits from above
Shimmer of light severs the darkness
Curiosity pushes him forth
A dog, half corpse half living
The whine ceases as his boot is lowered
And the frail skull collapses

Concussion, lights turn to darkness
As he hits the floor clutching his head
Wake up as the blur sharpens
Gazing at dismembered torsos
Look down, flesh stripped from his legs
Gagged screams, muffled unheard
Tortured bodies denied eternal rest
