Wolfthorn - Sailing Ships and Burning Bridges

And still the rain kept falling
As I gazed into the night
Bleak and dismal visions
Slowly flashed before my eyes

I follow in the footprints of the men who went before
The voices cry behind, but I can’t hear them anymore

Onwards to the harbour
Where the ships put out to sea
Leaving all that was behind
And all that might have been

The world now cloaked in darkness, I embark upon the waves
Raise the sails, set a course and take it to the grave

Unlamented, my dreams slowly depart
Now forgotten memories, inside a blackened heart
My eyes stare wide in wonder, with lessons truly learned
That ship has sailed, that bridge has burnt

This is goodbye, this is farewell
Bring forth the flames, in solitude dwell

Now I know what lies beyond, as I pass between the gates
Landscapes clad in frozen swaths of sadness, fear and hate
Choirs of grief sound out my name in mournful harmony
Forests bare and naked fields greet me infernally

Caressed by ice, arcane and cold, it permeates in me
The sweetest touch of emptiness, I cry in ecstasy
Clear I see the meaning of the truths life held in store
Sailing ships and burning bridges, mourn me evermore
