Gallows Majesty - William Winter

Three men had capsized,
no hope anymore
caught in the storm nothing left but to pray
Lake was so treacherous,
few dared to risk it
but William Winter braved it this day
Heading straight for them,
reckless abandon
manning the oars waves all he could see
Knowing for certain,
his time could end
but he would gladly trade his life for three

Waters were icy,
no chance of rescue
single man rowboat what could one do?
Winter had reached them,
with waning strength now
pulled each man onboard upstream he flew
Two men were frantic,
youngest was fading
rowed to the blind and wired all them on
Rescue boats coming,
may be too late now
three men left waiting youngest was gone

But all was not lost,
due to one man’s noble deed
Two lived on and remembered,
till the day they met their ends
He left this world a hero,
fulfilled his destiny
“Greater love hath no man,
than to give life for his friends”
