Twilight Fauna - A Thinning Veil

Trembling in fields of foxfire
Communion with flame
Oaken ash and owl feathers
Render me into night
Among wolf and sheep
Locusts, impetuous sing me to sleep
Into the haze, berries turn and drop
Staving off the cold
Quietly, quietly they die
Hushed voices, wild blossoms
And swaying grass on cold autumn nights

Ascending smoke
As memories fade
A woman weeps
There’s a dog in the doorway
Name a fire, burn an offering
Funeral signs in the yard
Like whispering wraiths
You’re laying down with a ghost
It found you all along
And you’ve found where you belong
And it’s been there all along

Wait I am alone under cracking pines
I remember warm fires on mountain tops
Ravens cut the skies, weeping
Weeping in fields my spirit comes alive
